Mexico City's ZSONA MACO 2026, running from February 4 to 8, has attracted record crowds, reaffirming its status as Latin America's premier art fair. The event features contemporary and modern art galleries, with new curatorial appointments including Aimé Iglesias Lukin and Mario Uvence, and aims to expand its role as a platform for cultural dialogue and social transformation. Last year, the fair welcomed over 81,000 visitors.
'Rental Family,' a film featuring American actor Brendan Fraser, premiered in Japan on February 27 after receiving positive reviews in the U.S. and acclaim at international film festivals. The film, set in modern-day Tokyo, follows Fraser's character as he takes on roles for a Japanese 'rental family' agency, exploring themes of loneliness and human connection while forming genuine bonds with clients. Despite only achieving 5,000 ticket sales on its opening day, the film has been noted for its unique approach to storytelling and emotional depth.
Clara Brugada, Mexico City's mayor, has announced an extensive cultural programme to accompany the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature over 1,000 murals inspired by Mesoamerican culture. As part of the preparations, renovations are underway at 12 museums and 46 archaeological sites nationwide, with the tourism ministry expecting more than 5 million visitors. Additionally, the Museo Jumex will host an exhibition titled _Football & Art. A Shared Emotion_ from March to July, further enhancing the cultural landscape during the tournament.
