Shakespeare's London Home Location Identified by Researcher
Lucy Munro, a professor at King’s College London, has identified the precise location of William Shakespeare's former home in Blackfriars, London, which he purchased in 1613. This discovery, based on a previously unknown plan from the London Archives, reveals that the property was situated in the gatehouse of a medieval priory and was divided into two houses by 1645. The finding challenges the notion that Shakespeare retired to Stratford-upon-Avon without spending significant time in London.
Kunsthaus Zurich reopens Emil Bührle Collection with Van Gogh works
The Kunsthaus Zurich has reopened the Emil Bührle Collection, showcasing 205 works, including five paintings by Van Gogh, one of which is a forgery. Notably, a sixth Van Gogh is under conservation, while a seventh has been withdrawn due to concerns over its Nazi-era provenance. Bührle, a controversial figure due to his wartime arms dealings and the acquisition of artworks from persecuted Jewish owners, amassed much of his collection during the Nazi period.
