Hungary is contesting the European Union's ban on Russian gas imports, which is scheduled to take effect by the end of 2027, in the European Court of Justice. Legal experts suggest that Hungary may have a viable case against the EU's decision, which aims to eliminate dependency on Russian energy sources amid concerns over geopolitical stability.
The European Commission has issued preliminary findings accusing TikTok of violating the Digital Services Act by implementing 'addictive design' features that could harm minors and vulnerable adults. These features include infinite scroll, autoplay, and a personalized recommendation system, which the commission claims encourage compulsive use and disregard users' mental wellbeing. TikTok plans to contest these findings, which, if upheld, could result in fines of up to 6% of the company's global annual turnover.
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and German leader Friedrich Merz will host a pre-summit meeting aimed at enhancing competitiveness through deregulation, the single market, and trade agreements. Leaders from Eastern and Northern European states, along with the European Commission, are confirmed to participate, while France's attendance remains unconfirmed. This initiative follows a joint position paper by Meloni and Merz and aligns with the recent formation of the 'Big Six' group of finance ministers from the bloc's largest economies to advocate for stronger economic growth.
