Chugai Pharmaceutical, a Roche-owned company, plans to seek approval by 2028 for GYM329, a next-generation obesity drug designed to prevent weight regain after treatment. Currently in clinical trials, GYM329 aims to maintain muscle mass by suppressing proteins that cause muscle atrophy, thereby helping to sustain energy usage and prevent weight rebound. This drug is expected to complement existing GLP-1 obesity medications, which have significantly influenced the global obesity drug market projected to reach $95 billion by 2030.
