Perseverance rover uncovers ancient river delta on Mars

NASA's Perseverance rover has detected a buried ancient river delta on Mars using its ground-penetrating radar, revealing geological features up to 35 meters underground in Jezero Crater. This delta, estimated to date back 3.7 to 4.2 billion years, predates a nearby surface feature known as the Western Delta, which is approximately 3.5 to 3.7 billion years old. The findings suggest that Jezero Crater once hosted a water-rich environment conducive to the preservation of biosignatures, bolstering the potential for past microbial life on the planet.
