SK Hynix Inc., South Korea's leading chip manufacturer, has announced a $12.9 billion (approximately 19 trillion won) investment to construct a new advanced chip packaging facility in Cheongju, aimed at addressing the global memory chip shortage driven by rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The facility is scheduled to begin construction in April and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, enhancing SK Hynix's capacity to produce high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are critical for AI systems. This investment aligns with industry forecasts predicting a 33% compound annual growth rate for the HBM market between 2025 and 2030.
