Apple accelerates smart glasses development to rival Meta
Apple is developing a range of smart glasses to compete with Meta's offerings, testing at least four frame styles and a new camera setup featuring vertically oriented oval lenses. The company is prioritizing this product line over a cheaper variant of its Vision Pro headset, reallocating resources to accelerate the development of two types of smart glasses, including one with a display. CEO Tim Cook emphasized the urgency of entering the smart glasses market, which saw significant growth in 2025, with Meta and EssilorLuxottica selling over 7 million units.
