The Metropolitan Police reported that London's murder rate fell to a historic low in 2025, with 97 homicides recorded, the fewest since 2014 and an 11% decrease from 109 in 2024. The police chief emphasized that London remains 'extraordinarily safe,' with a homicide rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, lower than any other UK city and many global counterparts. Efforts by the police and the Mayor's Violence Reduction Unit have focused on both enforcement and prevention, contributing to a significant reduction in violent crime, particularly among young people.
