UK Defence Ministry Reviews Military Records on Epstein
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has initiated a review of military records to investigate whether Jeffrey Epstein used RAF bases during his visits to the UK, following claims from former Prime Minister Gordon Brown that the British state may have facilitated Epstein's crimes. Defence Secretary John Healey has instructed officials to examine over 20 years of documents for evidence of Epstein's private jet landings at military facilities, including RAF Marham and RAF Northolt, where he reportedly arrived multiple times between 2000 and 2019. The MoD stated it will support any civilian police investigations related to this matter.
UK government secures record 8.4 gigawatts offshore wind
The UK government secured a record 8.4 gigawatts of offshore wind projects in its recent Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 7 (AR7), marking the largest single procurement of renewable energy in UK and European history. RWE and Vestas announced a contract for 92 offshore wind turbines for the Vanguard West project, which aims for a Final Investment Decision in summer 2026 and is expected to power approximately 1.5 million UK homes annually once operational.
UK NEET Youth Population Reaches Nearly One Million
Official data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that nearly 1 million young people in the UK, aged 16 to 24, are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), with the current estimate at 957,000, an increase from 946,000 in the previous quarter. This figure raises concerns about the long-term economic implications as the youth unemployment rate has also risen to 15.9%, up from 14.4% last year.
UK Work Visas Drop 19% Amid Stricter Immigration Rules
The UK government issued 168,000 work visas in 2025, a 19% decrease from 2024, reflecting the impact of stricter immigration rules introduced in a white paper published in May 2025. The number of asylum claims fell slightly to 100,625, despite a 7% increase in detected illegal arrivals, with 89% of these arriving by small boats.
