US Consumer Sentiment Declines Amid Rising Gas Prices
The University of Michigan reported that US consumer sentiment fell to a three-month low in March, with the index dropping to 55.5 from 56.6 in February, slightly above economists' expectations of 54.8. The decline was attributed to concerns over the ongoing US-Iran military conflict, which has led to rising gasoline prices impacting household confidence. Personal finance expectations decreased by 7.5%, while inflation expectations remained steady at 3.4% for the year ahead.
ICE Ends Contract with Camp East Montana Operator
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is terminating the contract with Acquisition Logistics, LLC, the operator of Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas, due to ongoing scrutiny over inhumane living conditions for nearly 3,000 detainees. ICE has selected Amentum Services, Inc. as the new contractor to improve medical care and other services at the facility, which has faced allegations of overcrowding, medical neglect, and malnutrition. The previous contract, awarded last year for up to $1.3 billion, had drawn criticism for the contractor's lack of experience in managing ICE facilities.
