House Sexual Harassment Settlements Exceed $338,000 Revealed

South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace revealed that sexual harassment settlements paid by the House of Representatives exceeded $338,000, with the total scope of payments being approximately double what was previously disclosed. Mace's disclosures, which include settlements for former lawmakers such as Eric Massa and John Conyers, come amid renewed scrutiny of how allegations of misconduct are handled in Congress, following recent resignations over inappropriate behavior claims. The House Oversight panel is seeking a full accounting of these payouts, which were made before a 2018 law prohibited federal funding for such settlements.

California Regulators Target State Farm Over Wildfire Claims

California regulators are pursuing potential fines against State Farm General Insurance Co. for allegedly mishandling over 13,700 wildfire claims from the January 2025 Los Angeles County wildfires, with more than 400 violations of state law identified in a review of 220 sample claims. The California Department of Insurance has filed an administrative action that could lead to a suspension of State Farm's license for up to a year and fines of up to $10,000 per violation if willful misconduct is found. State Farm, which has paid out over $5.7 billion in claims, disputes the allegations, describing the violations as unintentional oversights.
