Meta to Build Seven Gas Plants for Data Center

Meta Platforms Inc. is funding the construction of seven new natural gas-fired power plants to provide a total of 5.2 gigawatts of electricity for its largest data center project, Hyperion, in rural Louisiana. The agreement with Entergy Corp. includes the development of 240 miles of transmission lines and battery energy storage, with an estimated cost of $27 billion for the entire project. This initiative comes amid rising pressure on technology companies to address local energy costs associated with the increasing demand for AI infrastructure.
